America Recycles Day 2013

America Recycles Day 2013.Recycle Ann Arbor will be celebrating “America Recycles Day” by providing the public with a FREE* electronic waste recycling event on Thursday, November 14th (8:30 am – 6:30 pm) at the Drop-Off Station (DOS) located at 2950 E. Ellsworth Road.

Normally, electronic waste recycling at the DOS has a small fee associated with it depending on the type of electronic, such as a television or a printer. All electronic waste is recycled locally through Vintage Tech Recyclers in Canton, MI. “With the quick turn-over of technology today, we want to encourage people to practice good product stewardship, which takes into account the entire lifecycle of the product they are using-including disposal,” said Christine Chessler-Stull, Outreach & Zero Waste Coordinator.

“America Recycles Day” is a national movement started by Keep America Beautiful that happens annually on or around November 15th to promote recycling on a local level through community events. “Recycling is an easy step we all can take to improve our community, conserve natural resources, and create jobs. Through events like this, we aim to educate the public about local recycling efforts and how they can stay involved all year long,” said Chessler-Stull. In that spirit, Amcor Rigid Plastics, a national sponsor of America Recycles Day, will be sending employees from their local division to volunteer throughout the day.

* The $3.00 entry fee will still apply on America Recycles Day. Only electronic recycling fees will be waived. However each customer who stops by will receive a voucher that will exempt them from paying the $3.00 entry fee during a February 2014 visit. Additionally, Domino’s Pizza has generously agreed to provide customers with free pizza at the event (while supplies last).

Customers can maximize the value of the event by also bringing their general recyclables with their electronic waste, in addition to other free items such as household appliances (vacuum cleaners, microwaves, and hairdryers) and metal items (lawnmowers, stoves, and grills). Regular fees still apply for all other chargeable items such as general waste, yard waste, mattresses, tires, and Freon appliances. For a complete list of disposal and service prices, please visit

The Drop-Off Station is open Tuesday and Thursday, 8:30am – 6:30pm, and Saturdays 9:00am to 6:00pm. 734-971-7400.
